AVG offers a comprehensive feature package and a near-perfect malware detection score. It also includes one of the top firewalls I’ve tested as well as a reliable web and email scanner, and powerful device optimization tools. It isn’t parental controls, and ransomware protection is not reliable. It can also slow down performance, especially on computers that aren’t as powerful.
AVG’s free version is a basic malware protection but doesn’t include a firewall or web scanner. The basic plan offers more robust set features, while premium plans include useful features like a system tune-up and VPN.
The mobile applications of AVG offer exclusive features that are not available in the desktop version. Android apps, for example, allow you to remotely secure and wipe your phone in case it gets lost. It also provides a handy photo vault, which stores all your private photos and videos securely. Its anti-theft tool is quite effective, allowing users to track your phone’s location and even sound like a siren.
AVG’s intuitive interface makes it easy to navigate through its many features. It employs well-known headings and thumbnails. The settings menu allows you to customize your scan sensitiveness, add or remove file types from the scan and enable advanced options like deep scanning and the ability to shred your files once they’ve been scan. You can also modify popup notifications, choose which data is shared with AVG and also enable «do-not-disturb» mode for full screen gaming or watching videos.
